HTC released a new smartphones in Desire series, Desire 825. The smartphone comes with 2GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 with 1.6 GHz quad-core processor. Let us look at a quick guide to unlock the bootloader and root your HTC Desire 825.
Prerequisites
- Battery charged atleast 60%
- Take a backup of your device because unlocking bootloader will wipe your device data.
- A computer and a original HTC USB cable.
Method #1
Unlock the bootloader of HTC Desire 825
- Download(~20MB) the Kingo unlock bootloader app in your PC and install the .exe file.
- Enable USB debugging in your HTC. To do so, go to Setting>About phone>Build number. Now continuously tap on build number until developers options appear under settings above the option About phone. Now under developers option right tick on USB debugging mode.
- Connect your device to PC using USB cable. After that, kingo will automatically install the device driver and establish connection with your device.
- Now click on unlock for process to begin. The app will automatically retrieve the unlock code. Do not disconnect your device from PC.
- Let the process be complete. Holla! bootloader of your HTC Desire is unlocked. Alternately you can also re-lock the bootloader.
Method #2. (official)
Unlock the bootloader of HTC Desire 825
- Go to HTCDev.com website and register and create an account.
- Connect your HTC to Computer and enable USB Debugging Mode on your HTC. To do so, go to Setting>About phone>Build number. Now continuously tap on build number until developers options appear under settings above the option About phone. Now under developers option right tick on USB debugging mode.
- Go to HTCDev.com and login, select Unlock Bootloader for process to begin.
- Now select the model from drop down list. If your device is not listed their then select your HTC model from All Other Supported Models and click Begin Unlock Bootloader.
- Right check on legal terms pop up messages.
- Follow the guide to set your HTC. Scroll to bottom, download the fastboot binary for your OS (windows/MAC/Linux) and click “Proceed to Step 5”. (Better to download it in folder C:WINDOWSsystem __)
- Open a command Prompt: Windows: Start->”cmd” (For windows).
- Type in Command Prompt: fastboot oem get_identifier_token
- Will see a long text in form of token. Copy the token from “Identifier Token Start” till “Identifier Token End”.
- Paste the token in HTCDev guide page and click ‘Submit’.
- After a couple of minutes you will receive an email from HTC, download “unlock_code.bin”, and place it to the folder where you downloaded the fastboot binary. or to C:WINDOWSsystem __ as I did.
- Back to the command Prompt, input: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin and then enter.
- Wait a few seconds to allow your HTC phone to reboot. That is it your HTC Desire 825 bootloader is unlocked.
To Root HTC Desire 825
- Download the Kingo Root app on your PC and install the app.
- Enable USB debugging in your HTC. To do so, go to Setting>About phone>Build number. Now continuously tap on build number until developers options appear under settings above the option About phone. Now under developers option right tick on USB debugging mode.
- Let the app recognise the device, then tap on root.
- The process may take couple of minutes and after the device reboots check for the app Kingo Root in app drawer.
- That’s it your device is rooted.
