There can be two possible outcomes when you send a message to a contact on Snapchat. It deletes instantly after the receiver views the message. Otherwise, it gets removed 24 hours after the recipient sees the message.
One may have some memorable conversation with a Snapchat friend and want to go through those messages but they are now deleted. Is it possible to recover deleted Snapchat conversations?
Technically, it is impossible to retrieve Snapchat messages once they are deleted from the chat. However, there are interesting workarounds that you can implement just in time to save the messages you exchange with your Snapchat contacts. In this guide, I have explained different ways to save Snapchat messages.
Save the Snapchat Messages in Chats
You can straight up save your messages on Snapchat with one tap.
- Launch Snapchat.
- Tap the profile icon at the top left corner.
- Go to My friends.
- Select the Snapchat contact you want to message.
- Write your message and press the Send button.
- Long press on the message and select Save in Chat from the menu.
Once you save a chat, its background will change to grey indicating that it has been saved locally on the app.
Take Screenshots of Snapchat Message
The best of all workarounds to save something on the phone is to take screenshots. Use finger gestures on the display or the designated buttons on the device to capture the screen content and save it in your phone gallery.
You can screenshot the message you have exchanged in the chat with your Snapchat friend. Check your phone’s File Manager or Gallery app to view the screenshot of the message anytime. Make sure to screenshot the message before it is viewed or 24 hours is complete.
NOTE: When you screenshot a Snapchat message it will be notified to you as well as the other user in the conversation.
Use Screen Recorder to Save Messages
You can also use a screen recorder right before you start typing a message on Snapchat. Let the screen recorder work in the background and record your chats. The screen recording will be saved on your phone as a video file.
Use the File Manager or access the Gallery to view the screen recording of your chats exchanged on Snapchat. Even if the actual message on Snapchat gets deleted after 24 hours or when the receiver views it, you have the entire conversation at your disposal in the form of a video recording.
Use prominent and free screen recording apps such as AZ Screen Recorder to record and save your Snapchat messages.
Reach Out to Snapchat Support to Retrieve Messages
Here is another possible method to recover the deleted Snapchat messages. You have to request Snapchat to provide you with your user data. It will consist of your friend list, snaps, messages, and other app usage data.
If the deleted message has not been permanently removed from the Snapchat server, the data file will surely have the message you are looking for. It will be a ZIP file that Snapchat will email you on the email ID you have used to access the platform.
To request Snapchat for your data,
- Launch Snapchat and tap the profile icon.
- Tap the cog wheel icon and select My Data from the Settings menu.
- Select Chat History under Select Data to Include.
- Tap Next.
- Specify All Time in the Date Range.
- Confirm the email ID and press Submit.
Is it Possible to Use Third-Party Apps to Recover Deleted Messages on Snapchat?
There may be some third-party apps claiming to help you recover deleted messages on Snapchat. That’s impossible because when a message is deleted, Snapchat also removes it from their servers. There is no way to recover a message deleted recently or a while ago.
As mentioned in the previous tip, you may request your user data from Snapchat. However, you cannot see the messages if they have been removed from the Snapchat server. Also, it is not technically feasible or legal for a third-party app to access the Snapchat servers to retrieve a message.
Bottom Line
Sometimes it may be a conversation with a best friend or a special one that you may not want to get removed after twenty-four hours. You would want to save it to revisit the chats later.
While you cannot get back deleted messages, you can save the conversation in a chat using the methods described in this guide.
Manually save the chat, request Snapchat for your data, screenshot the messages, or use screen recording to capture the entire conversation on the go.
