Google Maps has started sending out a ‘2020 Timeline Update’ to everyone via email. This timeline update is a list of the places you have visited along with statistics and other information. The timeline update will show you the cities/towns, restaurants/cafes, other places of visit you have been to in 2020. The timeline update will also consist of photographs you have clicked.

Of course, this ‘2020 Timeline Update‘ is only accessible if you have turned on your location. By turning this location setting, Google records all the places you have been to. It is also worth noting that because of Covid-19 the ‘2020 Timeline Update’ would be not as exciting as people expect it to be. Google Maps acknowledged this too.

The email started with,

“COVID-19 changed the world’s travels in 2020, and how many places people were able to visit. If you were able to travel this year, you can see some of the places you’ve been with the help of this automated Timeline email.”

Below this message is a map that displays the locations you have traveled to and the number of places is mentioned too. If you have traveled to someplace new, then that place is mentioned too. This year, the timeline update introduced a new ‘trends’ section. This ‘trends’ section displays the types of places you have visited categorized into shopping, food, and drink, and much more.

The ‘2020 Timeline Update’ also provides insight into how many miles you have covered in your travels. The end of the timeline update displays the user’s ‘all-time data’ which shows a count of the cities and places visited.
While this ‘2020 Timeline Update’ might not be too appealing, it might just take us down memory lane to remind us of the places we have visited.

The ‘2020 Timeline Update’ will soon be sent to the users who have turned on their location settings. This timeline update has arrived after Google Maps for Android rolled out a new feature that allows users to select a language for the app. This has made the app much more accessible for all especially non-English speakers.
