The Clubhouse app has been in the news recently. The app has been thriving lately, and there is a growing curiosity about the app. The Clubhouse app is an invitation-only audio chat platform for iOS. Because of its condition of users being able to join the app only through an invitation, the air of mystery around it has added to its popularity.
Launched in April 2020, the app’s net worth quickly hit one billion dollars in January 2020. The audio app has various clubs and virtual rooms on a wide range of topics. The app has a few celebrity users like Drake, Kevin Hart, and, most notably, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk.
Clubhouse overview
The app has different people hosting chats on the platform, much like podcasts, but, users get to join these chats. The app does not store data or record conversations, and users get to move in and out of chats quite easily. It does not have any other features like text messaging. The only pictures on the app are the profile pictures of the users.
Users can follow people and their topics of interest on the app. Discussions on topics like Health and Fitness, Life, Sports, Faith, Places, and Tech can be found on the app. Each chat room has moderators who manage the room and have some admin controls. Users can ‘raise their hand’ in the chat, and the moderator decides whether they want to permit that user to speak in the chat. The current limit of the maximum number of people in a chat is 5000.
Access
Currently, Clubhouse works on an invitation-only basis. You need to be invited by an existing Clubhouse user to be able to join the app. Every user on the app gets two invitations to hand out. The users get more as they use the app. Once you receive an invitation, you will be asked to sign up, choose your username, and link your Twitter/Instagram profiles.
Compatibility
The app is only available for iOS currently, although the developers are working on an Android app too.
No record of the conversations
Clubhouse does not record the conversations/chats of the users. The conversations are not even available for future use as they are not stored on the app’s server.
The Clubhouse app seems so fun, isn’t it? Once the invitation-only barrier is removed, we are sure it will become more and more popular. Until then, we will have to wait to use it!
